narbovia
The Narbo Via museum, designed by Foster + Partners, brings the Roman city of Narbo Martius to life in 2,600 m2 of exhibition space. With almost 1,300 exhibits, the capital of the province of Narbonnaise Gaul unveils its treasures: a collection of 760 funerary blocks in an automated wall; mosaics and wall paintings worthy of Pompeii; 3D reconstructions of the ancient city and its port. The tour takes in the city from several angles: social organization, town planning, houses and decor, economic and port life. A true living space, the Narbo Via museum boasts vineyards using organic growing techniques, a restaurant, an auditorium seating almost 200, a bookshop-shop, educational workshops, research areas and gardens. The Narbo Via museum is a member of the Narbo Via EPCC, along with Amphoralis, the archaeological site of Gallo-Roman potters in Sallèles-d’Aude, and the Horreum, underground galleries in Narbonne.
The Narbo Via museum is located at the eastern entrance to Narbonne, along the Canal de la Robine and a 20-minute walk from Narbonne’s hypercentre.
